Facebook wants to empower small businesses to drive business results through free tools we offer,” said Nikila Srinivasan, director of small business product management at Facebook. “As part of this ongoing work, we uncovered a need for an easier way for businesses to receive and manage appointments. With Appointments, businesses can now enable their customers to book appointments directly on Facebook for free.”

The new feature streamlines the booking process for both consumers and businesses. And it’s a win-win for Facebook, because soon you’ll never have to leave the app for anything.

After testing this feature for a while, now users will finally be able to request for appointments and businesses will approve them.

Business action buttons were first tested in May 2018, and by December they were rolled out for testing the appointment booking buttons. Whereas, now business from around the world will be able to benefit from this feature on Instagram.

To enable the “Book Now” button on business profiles, go to Edit Profile > “Add Action Button” and choose “Book Now”.

Facebook Business team also shared details regarding how the “Book Now” button will work. After clicking the button, the user will be asked to select the date, time and the service he wants to avail and then press ‘Request Appointment”.

It will then be transferred to Messenger, as Facebook is integrating its messaging platforms, where user and business will be able to connect and ask queries if any. Once the request is approved by the business, a notification via Messenger will be sent to the user. User can then add the date of appointment to Facebook’s event calendar or any other external app.

Businesses can also manage their appointment schedules by depending on Facebook and Instagram or may use any other third-party app. Product Manager at Facebook, George Liang described how it can be beneficial for business owners to manage their booking and schedules through Facebook and Instagram, as it consumes less time and requires fewer resources.

Businesses will soon be able to make ads through video creation tools, as well as ad buying tools that Facebook will be launching shortly.

Instagram is introducing new shopping features every other day to help influencers earn through the platform. Though it’s a win-win situation both for customers and businesses, however, could be problematic for people who are more interested in staying connected to friends instead of scrolling ad filled platform.
